Shelley Hendry, the key presenter for History Come to Life, passed away on May 23, 2021 in a tragic car wreck. She now has been united with her Savior Jesus Christ and her husband Jim, who founded this ministry before his passing in 2015.
This site is now dedicated to honoring their ministry and legacy.

"Thank you very much for your time at our last seminar....We were very impressed with the performance and will keep you in mind at other seminars."

"Our church has thoroughly enjoyed the ministry of the Hendry family each time we have had them. They have developed unique presentations that keep the attention of all ages while teaching life-changing lessons. Their costumes and chalk drawings are exceptional. They have been willing to adjust their presentations to fit with the themes and allotted time we have requested. The eagerness of the Hendry family to be a blessing to God's people is obvious. They will be a blessing to any ministry."

"Westminster Canterbury Lynchburg has been privileged to host History Come to Life for past events. The residents thoroughly relish the historical basis of the program and are entertained by the way the character is portrayed in costume before their eyes.
We will continue to have History Come to Life again and again to Westminster given their broad array of historical performances. Each event is a new learning experience and a time to appreciate and reflect on the past."

"On behalf of the Friends of New London, VA, and myself, we say thank you for your presence at our Museum Fall Festival and Fundraiser as Patrick Henry and Dolley Madison. Your performance on the store porch was beyond words. I so felt that I was truly in 1789. The joy of your performance so showed on the children's faces as you captured their attention totally. I am sure they will always remember that day....Your first-person personae were amazing. God bless you for what you do. We would hope that you will return to New London, VA, another time."

"I've been coming to Gettysburg for 16 years--this is the most moving presentation I've seen."

"God has been at work all throughout history in the lives of individuals and in the paths of kingdoms and nations. Remembering what God has done and passing the legacy of these events and stories on to future generations is commanded in Psalm 78. Jim Hendry's dramatic portrayal of historical events and characters is a powerful way to remember, experience, and tell these stories in a way that seeks to give God the glory for what He has done, and in a way that can pierce the heart with the message of Christ. I have seen the Dr. Rossvally presentation on two occasions and highly recommend it."

"I have had the privilege of seeing Jim Hendry in action bringing history to life many times. It is obvious that he does his homework, and each of his portrayals is realistic and inspiring. For example, the highlight of our tour of Manassas Battlefield was when Jim came from around the far side of the Jackson Statue on Henry Hill as General "Stonewall" Jackson himself, in full uniform, to stir us with words of courage and faith. And on another occasion at Antietam Battlefield sitting in the old Dunker Church, our group heard what was tantamount to a first-hand account of General Jackson's time right there at Antietam, plus his personal perspectives on his life experiences. We and many people were eager to meet the general, speak with him and have pictures taken with him. In fact, the best part of the day was resting "under the shade of the trees" in front the Antietam Visitor Center and enthralling a steady flow of folks who were amazed and thrilled to see that "Stonewall" Jackson had returned to Antietam! All of Jim Hendry's portrayals are natural and appear effortless, but are surely a reflection of hard work, diligent preparation and quality research. Thank you, Jim!!"

"The students and faculty at Covenant Christian Academy drew inspiration from Mr. Hendry’s character of Teddy Roosevelt. I could see the gleam in several of the students’ eyes as they asked questions and found a hero in this man’s brave exhibition of virtues in leadership of family and country. We all loved the authentic and zealous spirit in which the presentation was made, with excellent attention to period dress and accessories."

Administrator, Covenant Christian Academy
"I have now twice had the opportunity to see Jim Hendry bring history alive with his accurate portrayals of both General ‘Stonewall’ Jackson and Dr. Max Rossvally. There were those in attendance on both occasions who had traveled a great distance to once again see Jim. By itself, that fact testifies to the effectiveness of Mr. Hendry’s ministry. I would highly recommend his dramatizations for church and school groups alike. In both presentations that I attended, Jim’s main focus was on God’s redemptive plan for man through Christ and on man’s utter reliance on God for his strength, guidance and comfort. Very uplifting and God-glorifying."

"The Hendry family has been a tremendous blessing to the senior adults at Thomas Road Baptist Church! What a multi-talented family! Their love for the Lord shines brightly in their ministry -- from chalk drawings, to singing, to their many portrayals of great Americans and Christians that have walked before us! It is with great joy and confidence that I recommend this family to you."

"I am honored to have seen the craftsmanship of Jim Hendry in many instances. We have worked together in the Jeffersonian Thanksgiving Festival and elsewhere, and each time I have been so blessed with the reality of the hand of God in our history as a nation. People from the past that God used for His glory are portrayed by Jim with such carefulness and passion that you can feel almost as if you really met them. I highly recommend him."
